Pallet Stacker Inspection & Certification in Saudi Arabia
A pallet stacker is a compact pedestrian or stand-on truck that lifts and stacks pallets into racking, usually with straddle legs and manual, semi-electric or fully electric lifting. Pallet stackers are widely used in small stores, supermarkets, workshops and light manufacturing areas where a full forklift is unnecessary. Even though they are small, their lift mechanisms, brakes and tiller safety controls need independent checking because they work in close proximity to people.
What we inspect on a pallet stacker
- ✓Mast, lift chains and fork arms checked for wear, bending and secure fixings
- ✓Straddle legs and load wheels inspected for damage, flat spots and bearing play
- ✓Tiller or handle checked for the belly or reversing safety switch, which should stop the truck when pressed against the operator
- ✓Electromagnetic or spring-applied brake and parking function tested for stopping reliably
- ✓Hydraulic pump, lowering valve and lift cylinder checked for leaks and uncontrolled lowering
- ✓Battery, charger and cabling checked for damage and secure connections on electric models
- ✓Emergency stop, key switch and control buttons tested for correct function
- ✓Capacity plate checked, with the reduced capacity at higher lift heights confirmed as visible
Common defects we find
- ✓Belly or reversing switch inoperative or taped over
- ✓Leaking lift cylinder causing forks to creep down
- ✓Worn or flat-spotted load wheels and bent straddle legs
- ✓Weak or worn brake leading to a long stopping distance
- ✓Capacity plate unreadable or missing
Risks of operating uncertified
- ✓Operator or pedestrian crush injury when the truck drives towards the operator without the safety switch working
- ✓Load dropping from height if the lift cylinder or chain fails
- ✓Tipping of the stacker when it is used beyond rated capacity or at maximum lift height on a slope
Testing, standards & frequency
Load / performance test
A load test with certified weights is typically carried out at 100% of the rated capacity, and sometimes higher depending on the standard and client. The test checks lifting to full height, mast and cylinder drift, controlled lowering, and braking while carrying the load.
Inspection interval
Typically at least annually, and more often where the stacker is used heavily or where client, insurer or site rules require.
Standards referenced
- ANSI/ITSDF B56.1 (low lift and high lift trucks)
- ISO 3691-1 (industrial trucks, safety requirements and verification)

FAQs
Does a manual or semi-electric pallet stacker need to be inspected?+
Yes. Manual and semi-electric stackers still lift loads on chains and cylinders, and their chains, valves and brakes can fail. Many site rules treat them as lifting equipment that needs periodic inspection and a load test.
Can a pallet stacker be used on ramps or uneven ground?+
Generally not. Pallet stackers are designed for smooth, level floors, and the manufacturer's instructions limit gradients and surface conditions. Using them on ramps risks brake failure and tipping.
