Forklift Inspection & Certification in Saudi Arabia

A forklift is a powered industrial truck that lifts and carries palletised or forked loads on a vertical mast, with a counterweight at the rear balancing the load. Forklifts run in warehouses, fabrication yards, plants and construction laydown areas across Saudi Arabia, where heat, sand and overloading accelerate wear. A third-party inspection confirms the truck can lift its nameplate capacity safely and gives contractors and client safety teams the record they ask for before mobilisation.

What we inspect on a forklift

  • ✓Fork arms measured for heel wear, blade thickness, straightness and cracks at the heel and hook against the manufacturer's wear limits
  • ✓Mast channels, rollers, carriage and load backrest checked for cracks, wear and missing fasteners
  • ✓Lift chains checked for elongation, seized links, worn anchor pins and adequate lubrication
  • ✓Lift and tilt cylinders inspected for rod scoring, seal leakage and drift under load
  • ✓Service brake, parking brake and inching pedal tested for effectiveness, including a brake test on a gradient where practical
  • ✓Capacity data plate, load centre marking and warning decals checked as legible and correct for the truck as currently equipped
  • ✓Overhead guard, operator restraint, horn, lights, mirrors and reverse alarm confirmed present and working
  • ✓Steer axle, tyres and wheel fixings examined for damage, uneven wear and loose nuts

Common defects we find

  • ✓Fork blades worn below the permitted thickness or bent out of square
  • ✓Stretched or unevenly worn lift chains causing uneven fork height
  • ✓Tilt or lift cylinder seal leaks leading to mast drift
  • ✓Capacity plate missing or no longer matching the truck after an attachment or mast change
  • ✓Inoperative parking brake, reverse alarm or seat belt

Risks of operating uncertified

  • ✓Load falling from the forks or the truck tipping forward when overloaded or driven with the load raised
  • ✓Pedestrians struck in congested yards because alarms, lights or visibility are inadequate
  • ✓Mast or chain failure dropping the load onto the operator or nearby workers

Testing, standards & frequency

Load / performance test

A capacity test with certified test weights at the rated load centre is typically carried out at 100% of rated capacity, and some clients specify up to 125% depending on the standard. The test includes lifting to full height, tilting, holding the load for a set period to check for drift, and a travel and braking check with the load.

Inspection interval

Typically at least annually, with pre-mobilisation checks and more frequent re-inspection where client or site rules require.

Standards referenced

  • ANSI/ITSDF B56.1 (low lift and high lift trucks)
  • ISO 3691-1 (industrial trucks, safety requirements and verification)
  • ISO 5057 (inspection and repair of fork arms in service)
  • Manufacturer specifications and load charts

FAQs

How often does a forklift need to be inspected and certified in Saudi Arabia?+

Many contractors and operators require a third-party inspection at least every 12 months and before the truck is mobilised to a new project. Aramco-linked and mega-project sites can add shorter re-inspection periods and daily operator checks on top of that, so check the client's requirements first.

Does a forklift need a load test, or is a visual inspection enough?+

A visual and functional inspection finds wear and defects, but a load test proves the lift, tilt and braking systems hold up at rated capacity. Many client procedures ask for both on first mobilisation and at the periodic inspection.
