Hydraulic Modular Trailer Inspection & Certification in Saudi Arabia
Hydraulic modular trailers and self-propelled modular transporters move process modules, bridge girders, transformers and other very heavy, indivisible loads at Saudi industrial and port sites. Each axle line must share the load correctly through its hydraulic suspension, and steering and controls must respond precisely to a remote operator. Independent inspection supports the engineered transport plan by confirming the platform itself is in sound condition.
What we inspect on a hydraulic modular trailer
- ✓Axle line frames, bolted module-to-module connections and connection plates for cracks and elongated holes
- ✓Slew bearing of each axle line for play, damaged seals and loose mounting bolts
- ✓Hydraulic suspension cylinders, rods and seals for scoring, leaks and drift under load
- ✓Hydraulic hoses, manifolds and fittings for abrasion, bulging and weeping connections
- ✓Steering cylinders, tie rods and sensors, including steering mode changes and calibration
- ✓Power pack engine, hydraulic pumps and pressure settings against the manufacturer's values
- ✓Remote controller, emergency stop, alarms and pressure or height sensors for correct function and load distribution readings
- ✓Tyres, wheels and wheel hub drives for condition and secure mounting
Common defects we find
- ✓Leaking suspension cylinder seals or cylinders that creep down under load
- ✓Abraded hoses and loose hydraulic fittings
- ✓Worn slew bearings and loose mounting bolts
- ✓Faulty pressure sensors producing incorrect load-share readings
- ✓Steering calibration drift between axle lines
Risks of operating uncertified
- ✓Load instability or tipping caused by uneven suspension pressures or levelling faults
- ✓Hydraulic hose burst releasing oil under pressure, with injury and sudden loss of support
- ✓Uncontrolled movement from controller or emergency stop failure
Testing, standards & frequency
Load / performance test
A functional test with ballast or a representative load is often requested before a major move, typically up to rated payload per the manufacturer's procedure, while verifying axle line load sharing, suspension pressures, levelling and steering. The test method and percentage depend on the manufacturer and the engineered transport plan.
Inspection interval
Typically before each major heavy transport project and at least annually, with more frequent checks where the move plan, client or site rules require.
Standards referenced
- Manufacturer specifications and load charts
- OSHA 29 CFR 1926.601 (motor vehicles on construction sites)
- Saudi Aramco General Instructions (GI), where applicable

FAQs
Why inspect an SPMT before a heavy module move?+
An SPMT moves a load that cannot be split, so a hydraulic or steering fault can have major consequences. Inspection confirms the platform is in the condition assumed by the engineered transport plan.
Who produces the transport plan for an SPMT move?+
The transport plan, load distribution calculations and route assessment are normally produced by the heavy-haul contractor's engineers. Third-party inspection verifies the equipment, not the plan itself.
