Flatbed Truck Inspection & Certification in Saudi Arabia
Flatbed trucks carry pipes, steel, precast elements, drums and general project cargo to sites across Saudi Arabia. Their open decks put all of the load security in the hands of the lashing points, headboard and the driver's securing method. An independent inspection checks the structure, restraint points and running gear so the truck can carry its rated payload safely.
What we inspect on a flatbed truck
- ✓Deck, cross members and longitudinal rails for cracks, bending and corrosion from overloading or impact
- ✓Headboard or load stop for deformation and secure mounting to the chassis
- ✓Lashing rings, stake pockets and twist locks for wear, cracks and rated capacity markings
- ✓Side boards, tailgate hinges and latches for damage and secure closure
- ✓Rated payload, GVW and axle plate against actual configuration and the weighbridge result
- ✓Leaf springs, U-bolts, shock absorbers and axle mountings for cracks and shifted components
- ✓Brakes, tyres, wheel nuts and lighting, including the condition of any tail lift or loading ramp if fitted
Common defects we find
- ✓Cracked or bent cross members and rails after years of overloading
- ✓Worn, bent or broken lashing rings and stake pockets
- ✓Damaged or missing headboard allowing cargo to move forward under braking
- ✓Cracked leaf springs or loose U-bolts
- ✓Stretched or broken wheel studs and uneven tyre wear indicating overloaded or misaligned axles
Risks of operating uncertified
- ✓Cargo shifting or falling from the deck onto traffic or site personnel
- ✓Overloaded axles reducing braking performance and damaging the chassis
- ✓Fatigue failure of the deck structure or suspension while loaded
Testing, standards & frequency
Load / performance test
Not applicable: a proof load test is not normally required for a flatbed. An axle-by-axle weighbridge check against the rated GVW, a brake performance test and a structural visual inspection of the deck are typically used instead.
Inspection interval
Typically at least annually and before mobilisation, with the deck structure and lashing points re-checked after any overload, impact or structural repair.
Standards referenced
- OSHA 29 CFR 1926.601 (motor vehicles on construction sites)
- EN 12195-1 (load restraining on road vehicles, calculation of securing forces)
- Manufacturer specifications and operating manuals

FAQs
Do flatbed trucks need a third-party inspection certificate for site entry?+
Many contractors and operators require a current inspection certificate or sticker for any vehicle entering their site. The exact rule depends on the client, so confirm it with the project HSE team.
Are lashing points on a flatbed truck inspected?+
Yes. Inspectors check the rings, pockets and twist locks for wear, cracks and capacity markings, because the securing system is only as strong as the weakest anchor point.
