Concrete Mixer Truck Inspection & Certification in Saudi Arabia
Concrete mixer trucks, often called transit mixers, deliver ready-mixed concrete from batching plants to building, bridge and infrastructure sites across Saudi Arabia. The rotating drum is heavy and high on the chassis, and worn blades or drive components affect both safety and concrete quality. Independent inspection checks the mechanical condition of the drum system and the vehicle before it enters a project.
What we inspect on a concrete mixer truck
- ✓Drum shell for wear-through, dents, cracks and concrete build-up
- ✓Mixing blades and fins for wear against the manufacturer's limits, as worn blades reduce mixing efficiency
- ✓Drum support rollers, thrust rollers and pedestal for wear, noise and secure mounting
- ✓Hydraulic drum drive pump, motor and gearbox for leaks and abnormal noise
- ✓Charge hopper and discharge chute, chute hinge pins, locks and swing mechanism
- ✓Water tank, pump and wash-down system for leaks and function
- ✓Rear access ladder, platform and handrails for secure fixing and anti-slip surface
- ✓Brakes, steering, suspension, tyres and lighting, including the reverse alarm and camera
Common defects we find
- ✓Worn mixing blades reducing mixing performance
- ✓Leaking drum drive hydraulic motor or hoses
- ✓Worn or noisy support and thrust rollers
- ✓Worn hopper and chute hinge pins or locks that no longer hold position
- ✓Damaged or missing ladder treads and handrails
Risks of operating uncertified
- ✓Rollover caused by the high centre of gravity and shifting drum contents on corners or slopes
- ✓Falls from the rear ladder and platform when steps or handrails are damaged
- ✓Uncontrolled chute swing or hopper movement injuring ground personnel at the discharge point
Testing, standards & frequency
Load / performance test
Not applicable: a lifting load test does not apply. Drum rotation and drive function in charge and discharge, a blade wear measurement and a brake performance test are typically used instead.
Inspection interval
Typically at least annually and before mobilisation, with drum roller and blade wear checked more often on mixers working heavy daily delivery cycles.
Standards referenced
- ASTM C94 (ready-mixed concrete, including requirements for mixers and agitators)
- OSHA 29 CFR 1926.601 (motor vehicles on construction sites)
- Manufacturer specifications and operating manuals

FAQs
Why does mixer blade wear matter for third-party inspection?+
Worn blades reduce mixing efficiency and can lead to non-uniform concrete, so blade wear is both a quality and a delivery risk. Inspectors measure it against the manufacturer's limits.
Do concrete mixer trucks need to be certified for site access?+
Many project owners require an inspection report or sticker for every concrete delivery vehicle entering site. Check the contract and project HSE requirements for the specific rule.
