Crawler Loader Inspection & Certification in Saudi Arabia

Crawler loaders combine the bucket and lift arms of a wheel loader with a track undercarriage, giving traction where tyres would slip in loose sand, wet fill, landfill and demolition debris. The tracks, drive and steering system and loader linkage all wear quickly in abrasive ground, and debris around the engine bay raises fire risk. Inspection verifies these items before the machine is deployed on sites that rely on its traction and stability.

What we inspect on a crawler loader

  • ✓Loader arms, bucket pivots, tilt linkage and cylinders: pin and bushing wear, weld cracks, and cutting edge and tooth condition
  • ✓Undercarriage: track chain stretch, grouser height on the shoes, rollers, idlers, sprockets, and recoil and track tension, which wear faster under bucket loads and frequent turning
  • ✓Final drives and steering: steering clutches, brakes or hydrostatic steering response, and leakage at the final drives
  • ✓Parking brake hold and steering-brake function, including neutral (counter-rotation) steer on hydrostatic models
  • ✓Lift arm support or safety strut available and functional for maintenance
  • ✓Hydraulic hoses, valves and loader cylinders for leaks, and bucket drift under load
  • ✓Belly guards, track guards and engine-bay cleanliness, including debris and fuel or oil leaks near hot surfaces
  • ✓Cab protective structure, seat belt, mirrors, alarms, lights and fire extinguisher

Common defects we find

  • ✓Worn track chains, bushings and sprockets leading to track throw
  • ✓Worn loader arm pins and bushings producing bucket play
  • ✓Leaking lift and tilt cylinders that allow the bucket to drift down
  • ✓Steering or brake slip and a parking brake that does not hold
  • ✓Debris and oil build-up in the engine bay, and missing belly guards

Risks of operating uncertified

  • ✓Runaway or rollover while reversing down a stockpile, landfill face or ramp with a full bucket when steering or brake performance has degraded
  • ✓Loader arms collapsing onto a mechanic because no arm support was used
  • ✓Engine bay fire from accumulated combustible debris and leaking oil on hot surfaces

Testing, standards & frequency

Load / performance test

Not applicable: crawler loaders are not rated lifting appliances. Brake hold tests, steering response, and lift and tilt hydraulic pressure and cycle checks against manufacturer specifications are typically carried out instead.

Inspection interval

Typically at least annually, with pre-mobilisation checks and more frequent re-inspection where client or site rules require.

Standards referenced

  • ISO 3471 (roll-over protective structures)
  • ISO 3449 (falling-object protective structures)
  • ISO 10265 (braking systems of crawler machines)
  • ISO 10533 (lift-arm support devices)

Part of our Heavy Equipment Testing & Inspection service. You receive an inspection report, Certificate of Conformity and inspection tag for passing equipment.

FAQs

When is a crawler loader chosen over a wheel loader?+

Typically where ground is soft, wet, uneven or abrasive enough that wheels lose traction or tyres are cut, such as loose sand, landfill and demolition work. Track wear then becomes the main inspection focus.

What undercarriage wear is acceptable on a crawler loader?+

Acceptable wear limits are set by the manufacturer in its service documentation. An inspector measures components such as links, bushings and sprockets and compares them with those published limits.
